Leak Codex of points costs and figures from the World Eaters codex
A supposed list of World Eater points is circulating today, but there may be fewer than meets the eye. Take a look and decide.
We're in the middle of preparing for the release of Astra Militarum, and already people are eager for news about the World Eater. There's been a lot of discussion, and yes, we know the codex is coming. Based on the fact that GW needs to fully release AM, and the upcoming holiday season, I expect GW to stick to their normal release strategy.
It's all about releasing something BIG and spicy early in Q1 to shore up numbers from a normally slow quarter, and World Eaters fits the bill perfectly.
We'll have to wait and see if the rumors of a 10th Edition reboot that circulated a few months ago pan out - but any 9th Edition World Eater codex is likely to have a very short lifespan.
This image has been making the rounds today, but this one comes from Handsome Fred of Bolter & Chainsword:
Some basic principles, First of all, this gives:
World Eaters Total Units: 22
- HQ: 5
- Troops: 2
- Elites: 4
- Quick Attack: 1
- Heavy Support: 6
- Steering wheel: 1
- Transport: 1
- Warlords: 2
Now compare that to say Leagues of Votann, also a brand new army, and then Thousand Sons - a directly equivalent CSM Cult Legion codex:
Votann Leagues Total Units: 12
- HQ: 5
- Troops: 1
- Elites: 2
- Quick Attack: 2
- Heavy Support: 2
Total Thousand Sons Units: 25
- HQ: 6
- Troops: 3
- Elites: 3
- Quick Attack: 2
- Heavy Support: 8
- Steering wheel: 1
- Transport: 1
- Warlords: 1
Leak or not leak? Fake or not Fake?
First, the image file has no metadata - which is unnatural. So the metadata was manually removed. This implies intentional action on the part of the image creator.
Then there are a lot of things we expect from Lord Invocatus, but there are some odd omissions.
To me, in particular, a single fast attack choice (Spawn) seems very odd. Now, maybe Berzerkers riding Juggers will be an Elite or HQ choice, but fast attack units are NOT in a World Eaters codex:
Where are the Raptors? Where are the Bikers? And for that matter, where is the generic Chaos Lord?
Let's talk about Angron.
I think 360pts is a bit light for a Daemon Primarch.
Magnus is at 450, Mortarion at 490 and a Bloodthirster/Skarbrand is around 330.
So the question is:
After all these decades of waiting, do we think Angron should just be a minor variation of a Bloodthirster, or something much bigger? Hmmm.
Finally, that leaf on page 88 of the codex is a bit of an exaggeration. Overall, there are a lot of strange choices and coincidences. It could be true—certainly. But I'm leaning more towards 60/40 in favor of a hoax.
